Exhibitor Spotlight: Bruker – Advancing Tribology & Metrology for Next-Generation Lubricants
Tuesday, 4 March 2025
As we approach Lubricant Expo & The Bearing Show North America 2025, we continue to spotlight our incredible exhibitors who are shaping the future of lubrication and tribology. Today, we turn our focus to Bruker, a leader in advanced tribology, stylus, and optical metrology solutions, delivering cutting-edge instrumentation for lubricant and bearing performance evaluation.
What area of the lubricants industry do you specialise in, and how does it benefit the industry?
At Bruker, we specialize in advanced tribology, stylus, and optical metrology solutions, providing cutting-edge instrumentation for lubricant and bearing performance evaluation. Our state-of-the-art tribometers, surface profilometers, and 3D optical metrology systems enable precise characterization of friction, wear, lubrication efficiency, and surface integrity. These capabilities help lubricant manufacturers and end-users optimize formulations, improve energy efficiency, and extend the lifespan of critical components in automotive, aerospace, industrial machinery, and emerging EV applications.
What are the industry’s biggest challenges right now?
The shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) has introduced new tribological challenges, including low-viscosity lubricants, stray currents, and tribo-corrosion in electric drivetrains. This transformation has driven the need for advanced formulations that require rigorous testing. Additionally, global sustainability initiatives and stricter regulations have increased demand for low-carbon lubricants and sustainable manufacturing processes.
Bruker is addressing these challenges with high-resolution, real-time wear and friction analysis, allowing lubricant developers to accelerate innovation and maintain compliance with evolving industry standards. The industry is also witnessing a growing shift toward AI-driven predictive maintenance and real-time monitoring, areas where Bruker’s tribology and metrology solutions play a crucial role in enhancing efficiency and reliability.
How do you think your company has developed since the last edition of the Expo in 2024?
Our products are continuously evolving to meet the changing demands of the industry. In 2024, we enhanced our flagship TriboLab UMT and TriboLab HD tribometers, enabling more accurate real-world replication for lubricant and material testing. We also expanded our EV and aerospace testing solutions by introducing specialized modules for in-situ electrified friction and wear testing and ultra-high and ultra-low temperature testing. These advancements reinforce Bruker’s commitment to delivering the most precise and comprehensive friction, wear, and surface characterization solutions available.
How will the Lubricant Expo help your company?
Lubricant Expo provides Bruker with a valuable platform to engage with lubricant formulators, bearing manufacturers, and tribology experts, fostering discussions on industry challenges and advancements. The event allows us to showcase our latest innovations and demonstrate how our cutting-edge tribology and metrology solutions enhance lubricant performance evaluation, ensuring reliability and efficiency in real-world applications. Additionally, the event enables us to gather valuable industry insights, helping us drive future product development tailored to the evolving needs of the lubrication and tribology sectors.
